Ask Ausiello:
March 27, 2012

tvline.com

Question: If Jason Ritter’s NBC pilot, County, gets picked up, what does it mean for Mark and Sarah on Parenthood? I have a bad feeling someone’s heart is going to get broken. —Marina
Ausiello: Not necessarily. Ritter (who was also at the aforementioned Genesis Awards on Saturday) assured us that he’ll “have to do a balancing act between shows.” It helps, as he pointed out, that both P’hood and County are “ensemble shows” that also happen to be owned by NBC Universal and produced by Jason Katims. “They would make it work,” he maintained. “It’s not going to be that Sarah gets a phone call about some fiery crash or something like that.”

Matt's Inside Line:
March 1, 2012

tvline.com

Parenthood | Many of you — in the wake of that roller coaster finale and given the fact that Jason Ritter booked a lead in Jason Katims’ medical drama pilot for NBC — are fearing the worst for Sarah and Mark, this despite the question he most romantically popped. But if the aforementioned County series does get picked up, at least the Parenthood pairing won’t end on a grisly term. “The good thing is that because they’re both Jason Katims and NBC/Universal Shows, it wouldn’t be a case of [Sarah] gets a phone call saying I was in a fiery car crash,” Ritter tells TVLine with a chuckle. “I’d be able to do some episodes to wrap it up naturally.”

Ask Matt:
February 21, 2012

tvguide.com

Question: Will Parenthood be renewed? How can excellent shows like that be on the bubble? How can people watch The Bachelor enough for it to keep coming back? - Richard

Matt Roush: I'd be surprised if Parenthood doesn't return, for several reasons: NBC is struggling on all fronts, and while this family drama - an endangered species in its own right - is far from a hit, and is ending its run early next Tuesday, it's not an embarrassment. And NBCUniversal owns the show, so is likely to be more tolerant toward one of its few dramatic properties that generates critical buzz and audience goodwill. That said, it's not a sure bet, because very little on this network is. I wish NBC could find a time period earlier in the night to test its appeal outside of the treacherous 10/9c hour (when many people are busy with DVR playback). But none of this has anything to do with the inexplicable appeal of shows like The Bachelor. Train-wreck TV will always exert a fascination for a segment of the audience, and I just they were as eager to embrace shows that aimed a little higher once in a while.

Michael B. Jordan Unlikely To Return To 'Parenthood' Any Time Soon (But It's OK)
February 14, 2012

ology.com

When I caught up with Michael about his role in the latter, I couldn't help but ask about his return to television -- specifically Parenthood. Fans love Alex and were bummed to see he and Haddie break up last season. So, will he be mending our hearts and returning to the show any time in the near future?

NBC orders two drama pilots
January 23, 2012

variety.com

NBC also ordered a drama pilot from "Friday Night Lights" showrunner Jason Katims for "County," with another NBC alum attached as talent: former "The Event" lead Jason Ritter. "County" takes viewers into the lives of a group of young doctors, nurses, and administrators, in a frenetic underfunded and morally compromising LA County Hospital.

At this point it's unknown how this will affect his character on Parenthood, we are still waiting on renewal for a 4th season.

Los Angeles (KSDK) - Think of Hollywood, and chances are the three words lights, camera, action probably come to mind. But truth be told, there's actually more action before those words are uttered.

Eventually the stars make it to the set, get a little direction from the director and the scene is shot.

"Ah, perfect! That was great," the director said to the crew.

You also get quite a bit of action when you put Mae Whitman and Lauren Graham together for an interview.

The Sentimental Smarts of “Parenthood”
January 2, 2012

newyorker.com

There’s a popular theory that the mark of a great TV show is that it dares you to reject it. The most ambitious dramas repel their audiences (“The Sopranos”) or confuse them (“The Wire”) or give them nightmares about bodies dissolving in acid (“Breaking Bad”). The most admirable comedies, such as “30 Rock,” crackle with cynicism. On certain nights, one might imagine that “Seinfeld” had stamped its motto all over the TV schedule: no hugging, no learning.
