Letters written by Rory and Lorelai pack and emotional punch in this tale. Rory returns to Yale with a note apologizing to Lucy for the deception about Marty, while Christopher finds Lorelai's recommendation letter for Luke most unsettling. - River Run@TWoP

  • Ratings - Variety.com - "Of note at the CW was "Gilmore Girls" (2.1/5 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall), which, despite facing "Idol," logged its best score among women 18-34 (4.0/10) since last January." - The Hollywoodreporter - The CW's "Gilmore Girls" (4.2 million, 2.1/5) tied "Dateline" and beat ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos" (5.7 million, 1.7 /4) in adults 18-49. - Mag13@FanForum

  • Review - tv.com - "Congrats to Lauren Graham on her newly obtained status as credited "producer" on Gilmore Girls, a title she received for the first time before Tuesday (Jan. 30) night's episode. Graham has been so routinely under-valued by awards groups over the years that it's nice to see her get her due in other ways, even if the common conspiracy theory (very likely correct) is that the "producer" nod was meant as not-so-subtle encouragement to sign back up for another season." - 2ggObsessed@FanForum

  • Review - TVGuide Podcast - Feb 02, 2007 - They didn't like it and it felt forced, the producer credit is a way to get Lauren to talk about season 8 - Recap thanks to caf123@FanForum - transcript thanks to 2ggObsessed@FanForum

  • Review - Ew.com - "It doesn't quite seem fair that the unraveling of Christopher and Lorelai began with a cutely bland opener in which Rory and her two parents bonded outside the big house, concocting schemes to ditch their napkins of unchewed quail. Doesn't quite seem fair that Kelly Bishop only showed up for that one little scene either, but them's the breaks." - Mots15@FanForum

  • Review - Robin Honig TV Guide - "So wouldn’t ya know it, Chris found The Letter. The one Lorelai slaved over, the one she wrote and rewrote, the one she finally banged out on a typewriter, the one she hid, the one she keeps calling a "character reference." Big diff, right?" - Captain Hawkeye@FanForum

  • Recap - "For some reason, despite everything that has happened to make this show start circling the drain, four Gilmore characters can be relied upon to entertain, no matter who is writing the episode: Emily, Richard, Sookie and Paris. All four of them are in tonight's episode (Emily is just in the cold open, but it counts), and, I've got to tell you, their presence made it pretty decent as a result. Otherwise? Um... well... Let's just say this crawl towards the inevitable Lorelai - Luke reunion is driving me nuts." - tvsquad.com

  • Is Chatty Cathy torn between two lovers? Coffee-fueled maternal flapjaw and flibbertigibbet Lorelai (Lauren Graham) might regret her decision to write a character reference for old flame Luke (Scott Patterson) after hubby Christopher (David Sutcliffe) gloms onto the letter. • TV Guide Hot List - Since the new season began, the stars have seemed a bit dimmer and the stories have rung somewhat hollow on this series. But, tonight, Gilmore Girls gets back a glimmer of its former glory with a finely crafted and dramatic episode that I only hope is the start of a return to its charming self. Rory leaves her letter of apology for Lucy and the content of Lorelai's letter of recommendation for Luke is revealed, with the latter having far-reaching consequences. If that wasn't enough, the hour also delivers two very different, but momentous, surprises. - Bill Ecklund - FuzzyCerts@FanForum

Speculation (Below is spec based on the spoilers and what I think might happen)
Added Dec 25, 2006 - Lorelai visits Sookie to ask about the letter she has to write for Luke, she baby sits Davey. Chris finds the letter for Luke and is not pleased, they have a falling out as a sorry Lorelai compromises and they get a LCD TV for the house. While teaching Rory at Yale Richard collapses. Luke has a court date for the custody hearing. The snow is going by the end of the episode. Chris and Lorelai could be broken up or separate by the end of the episode and doesn't know about Richard. Lorelai finds out late in the episode while at Luke's finding out how the hearing went.
